Product Overview

Description:

Neoprene material, originally called duprene, is a homopolymer of chlorobutadiene, which was one of the first mass-produced synthetic rubber compounds. Created in 1930 by DuPont scientists, it boasts the unusual property of having a moderate resistance to both petroleum oils and weather such as ozone, UV and oxygen. Neoprene is an overall very resistant material, boasting excellent resistance to everything from chemicals to temperature to weather to refrigerants and fire resistance.

Typical Applications

Neoprene is an excellent material for a large variety of applications and boasts features that makes neoprene well-suited for certain sealing applications that other materials would not be satisfactory. The material is classified as a general purpose elastomer, as it has a relatively low compression set, flex-cracking resistant and has good resilience and abrasion. It can be used as a base for adhesives, as noise isolation for power transformer installations, padding in external metal cases to protext the contents while allowing a snug fit and so many others. Neoprene is excellent for use in bonding rubber to metal as it has excellent adhesion qualities.

Automobile and Aircraft Brake Fluids, Gasoline and Ketones (MEK)
