Description:
Neoprene material, originally called duprene, is a homopolymer of chlorobutadiene, which was one of the first mass-produced synthetic rubber compounds. Created in 1930 by DuPont scientists, it boasts the unusual property of having a moderate resistance to both petroleum oils and weather such as ozone, UV and oxygen. Neoprene is an overall very resistant material, boasting excellent resistance to everything from chemicals to temperature to weather to refrigerants and fire resistance.
When it comes to sealing flanges, whether raised or flat face flanges, there are two type of gasket shapes - ring gaskets and full face gaskets. Ring Gaskets are positioned inside of the flange holts and around the pipe bore. They can also be used within a raised face design, where it sits on the raised surface. Ring Gaskets reuqire less material and less cutting and can be installed without completely dissembling the joint. The disadvantage is the gasket can be harder to align and clamp.
Applications:
Neoprene gaskets are very good general service type gaskets with numerous applciations within the water, wastewater and process industries.
It is suitable with water, hydraulic silicates, for applications requiring moderate exposure to ozone and also boasts moderate oil resistance qualities.
Do Not Use Within:
Neoprene gasket material is not compatible with any acetones, aromatic or chlorinated hydrocarbons, such as benzene.
