Description:
This gasket style is comprised of a polytetrafluoroethlyene a high molecular weight polymer, commonly referred as PTFE. PTFE is best known for its exteme low coeffient of friction, excellent resistance to high temperatures and corrosive materials. Virgin PTFE boasts a resiliency to virtually all chemicals within the 0-14 pH scale.
When it comes to sealing flanges, whether raised or flat face flanges, there are two type of gasket shapes - ring gaskets and full face gaskets. Full Face Gaskets are similar to ring gaskets, as it can also seal raised flanges, but it has a specified number of holes for securing bolts to pass through, thus making alignment easier and clamping easier. This also has the added benefit of filling the hap between the bolting surfaces. The disadvantage is that the joint must be completely dissembled for installation.
Applications:
Virgin PTFE gasket sheet material is recommended for applications where high-purity materials are required and in processes where contamination or discoloration is unacceptable, such as the food and beverage industries.
