Description:
This gasket material is comprised of Ethylene-Propylene, commonly referred as EPDM Rubber. EPDM is an elastomer rubber that features excellent resistance to heat, ozone and sunlight (UV) as well as superior resistances to water and steam. This particular EPDM style meets the criteria for the NSF/ANSI G-61 standards.
The NSF/ANSI G-61 standard specifies criteria for evaluation and testing of products to ensure they do not leach hazardous or contaminating material into water. As of January 4, 2014 it has been illegal to introduce products into commerce for drinking water applications UNLESS they are tested and meet the new version of the lead-free standard.
When it comes to sealing flanges, whether raised or flat face flanges, there are two type of gasket shapes - Ring Gaskets and Full Face Gaskets. Full Face Gaskets are similar to Ring gaskets, as they too are used to seal raised flanges, however Full Face are designed with a specified number of holes for securing bolts to pass through, thus making alignment easier and clamping easier. Full Face gaskets also have the added benefit of filling the hap between the bolting surfaces. The disadvantage is that the joint must be completely dissembled for installation.
Applications:
Due to the NSF-61 Certification, it is best used within any application that may be in contact with potable water. These gaskets are recommended for water filtration, processing or treatment facilities and industries. With an excellent temperature range, it is suitable for both hot and cold water.
Typically Used Within:
1. Potable Water applications, Water Treatment Facilities and Industries, Drinking Water Systems, steam and saturated steam
2. Strong Acids, strong alkalis, ozone and sunlight (UV)
Do Not Use Within:
This gasket material is not recommended within applications regarding solvents and aromatic hydrocarbons, such as benzene.
